One of the US's strengths, I've always thought -- or perhaps learned? -- is the strength brought by the many peoples and persons who became part of us. I find the idea of choosing to be a citizen very moving. Those of use who became citizens by birth don't have the same kind of commitment that it takes to actively choose.
